Description
Award winner with 7" pale purple-pink petals with a broad dark-pink central streak. Flowers start to appear from 4" up the stems. One of the heaviest-blooming clematis. Cross between Clematis 'Hagley Hybrid' and Clematis ' mahrouyi'. Two sets of flowers grace this stellar performer. Last year's stems produce 3-4" double or semi-double light pink flowers with rose bars and full centers of ruffled petals. New (later) growth blooms with large pink single flowers marked with a deep rose bar. Blooms May through July and again in September. Group 2 Clematis are pruned back lightly to a framework of branches and buds; avoid pruning too hard, as this may reduce flowering. Prune off the top growth to a pair of axil buds to make a framework cutting back, not harshly, to a good pair of axil buds. Proper name: Clematis 'Piilu' CLEMATIS: Always called the "Queen of Vines," nothing else makes the spectacular show of a clematis in full bloom. In almost all zones, these magnificent plants decorate mailboxes, trellises and porches with cascades of some of the most beautiful blooms in the flower kingdom, and they're not difficult to grow. There's no reason you can't add them to your landscape.
